Meet Ashley—Librarian for the Day

St. Mary’s School 5th grader, Ashley DeAngelis, recently spent a morning with me, as she was appointed Librarian for the Day. Ashley’s parents paid a hefty sum, I’m sure, at a recent school fundraiser for their daughter, a life-long Bethel Library user, to spend time behind the scenes learning just a few things librarians do all day.  No matter what the cost, my experience with Ashley was priceless!

Ashley worked hard to earn her well-deserved certificate as she assisted with paying the bills, filing important documents, and sorting the mail. This quick learner helped to stamp date due cards, sort books for shelving, and checked books in after they had been returned to circulation. Then, she processed a new book to get it ready for the shelves.

Ashley is a bright young lady who made a creative display of mystery books in the Teen Library—books that were of interest to her and that she selected herself. She also posted a tweet on the Library’s Twitter account and wrote a post on our Facebook page. And finally, after a quick lesson, Ashley used the 3D printer to create a keepsake to take home. Ashley’s beaming smile and enthusiasm to learn all she could assures me that, with talent like hers, the future of librarianship is in good hands!
