Spotlight on Databases for Kids

The Michele Arnhold Children’s Library Offers New Ways for Children to Explore the World!

Three Databases Just for Kids…

Kids are naturally curious, and the Michele Arnhold Children’s Library has three excellent databases to help kids begin exploring their world!

image005 Explora is designed for kids in Grades K-5 (younger kids may need some help). Searches yield results that include articles, essays, and primary source documents about a wide variety of subjects from the arts to current events to math and science; there also are 60,000 videos from the Associated Press. And parents and teachers will appreciate the reading-level indicators to guide children to grade-appropriate content.

image006 National Geographic Kids is another great database for for curious young minds. Searches yield videos, pictures, books (which can be read online or listened to!), as well as magazine articles, including National Geographic Magazine issues back to 2009. Topics covered include animals, history, science, and technology; and kids can search in English and almost 3 dozen other languages!

image007 Britannica Library: Children is the third fun way to help get kids exploring–and kids can even store their research in their own personal online account! Categories to search include “Biographies,” “The Animal Kingdom,” “World Atlas,” and “Tour the U.S.A.”

PLUS… Children’s ebooks & audiobooks are downloadable with a valid Bethel Public Library card. Click here for more information!
