In the Spotlight: Language Learning Resources at Your Library

Whether you’re planning a vacation overseas, or want to explore a new culture without traveling abroad, your hometown library can help you broaden your horizons. How? We have language learning resources that you can access from the comfort of your own home or with a visit to the Library!

The Bethel Public Library subscribes to Mango Languages, an online database that offers courses in 70 languages as well as ESL. And there are specialized courses to help you prepare for a conversation about Carnival in Venice in Italian, Feng Shui in Mandarin, or Flamenco dancing in Spanish! Mango is available to Bethel patrons only; simply create a profile with your valid Bethel library card and you can start learning right away.

If you want to explore some free language learning resources on the web try Foreign Language Institute language coursesUS Peace Corps Language courses or BBC languages.

When you visit the Library, we encourage you to browse the Adult Literacy collection that will help you to learn English language or improve your grammar.

The Library also has a small foreign language collection which offers books in Spanish, German and French.

Both collections are located near the Reference Desk on the second floor of the Library.

If you have questions about any of these resources please contact the Reference Desk of the Library at 203-794-8756, x4 or by clicking here to e-mail us.

We’re always happy to help you explore the world!
