Seelye Descendant Visits Family Home
By Lynn Rosato, Library Director
September-October 2014
Walter and Marie Seelye made a surprise visit to the Library during our July Centennial Celebration of the Seelye House. Walter is the great great grandson of Seth Seelye, the home’s original owner and first mayor of Bethel.
Originally from Massachusetts, he and his wife now reside in Colorado and were in New England visiting friends and relatives. Walter has been following our construction process through the Library’s website and visited Bethel back in 2003 when the Seelye House looked its worse. The house was vacant and looking pretty worn down, as we had move to temporary space for the 2004-05 construction. At the time I showed the Seelye’s the plans for the future and now they have seen for themselves what a beautiful new library we finally have. Walter was especially impressed with the Library’s Business and Technology Center, and of course, both he and Marie were duly impressed and delighted with the restoration and renovation of his family’s original homestead.
