In the late 1980's local artist, the late Jack Barrows, created four pen and ink drawings of four popular scenes in the downtown Bethel area. These beautiful prints depict the Library as it appeared after the 1967 addition, the Opera House on Greenwood Avenue, the fountain in P.T. Barnum Square, and the old Train Station. Phineas T. Barnum was many things, "a newspaper editor, lottery agent, museum director, politician, and distinguished public benefactor." But he is perhaps known best as the greatest showman on earth! Born in Bethel, he is our town's most well known citizen.
