Sponsored by the Institute of Museum and Library Services
Presented by Joan Gatturna
History is full of the stories of the captains of America’s Great Age of Sail, but the tales of the women and families who sailed with them are rarely heard. Storyteller and actress, Joan Gatturna, will bring to life Johanna Sears Burgess, a character representative of the 19th century women who experienced the romance and peril of life at sea, including storms, sickness, and pirate attacks. Johanna will tell a story of her first trip to China and of family life aboard a Gold Rush clipper. For ages 12 through adult. Registration is required for this program.
